Hunter came to rescue along with his brother earlier this year, they had lived on large Scottish estates and although we were told they were working dogs we feel they were more likely just allowed to run wild, as they are pretty wild LOL. We initially rehomed them as a pair and although they stayed in the home a few months they were recently returned as they were difficult to manage as a pair when out and about. After speaking to the trainer who had tried to help we have made the decision to separate them.
Hunter is the most sensitive of the two and can be quite fearful of new dogs or people coming towards him, he reacts by barking (this can sound quite aggressive). He is a very bouncy boy with boundless energy and when off lead can run and run and run, he will come back when called but does travel out of sight which can be an issue if he comes accross a strange person or dog as he will bark at them. He will therefore need training on both his recall and his reaction to strangers and dogs. When he was in the home they found when walking him that he reacted by barking and lunging towards any dogs they passed and they found him difficult to handle. Strangly with us in kennels we find him to be good with all the dogs we walk him with and when passing dogs he will bark at the occasional one buy more often than not will just walk past. He is strong on a lead and a little unpredictable (pulling one way then another), however this is not suprising as for the first almost four years of his life he never went on a lead. Hunter does also light/shadow chase, it is not a severe case but it does need to be taken into account and may need things puttling in place to reduce this and to get him out of the habit. In a one to one situation with people he knows Hunter is a very friendly happy boy who loves to cuddle, he is clean in the house and can be left for short periods without issue.
Hunter could be homed with another dog but this should ideally be a calmer dog that will help him gain confidence and maybe help him to stay closer when out and about rather than one as bonkers as him that will encourage him to do more. He will need some one to one training so if you do have another dog you need to have the time to give that one to one time without it being an issue to your other dog.
